Being sequestered in our homes has given us some time to delve into our catalog of games (both new and old), so we thought we’d share some of the titles we’ve been playing recently!
Val: To no one’s surprise, I have DEEPLY invested my gaming time into Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It’s been one of my favorite franchises since the GameCube days, and New Horizons takes it to a whole new level. I’ve also played a bunch of Fortnite, and I’m looking forward to the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake. I’d also like to finish my playthrough of Banjo-Kazooie (another childhood favorite).
Tony: I have been playing tons of Animal Crossing: New Horizions – I just unlocked terraforming and am currently working on paving the roads of my town. Besides that I’ve been spending most of my time playing D&D with my friends on Roll20 and it has been great as always. I am currently gearing up to start Fort Triumph on Steam.
John: Working on achieving my millennial dreams of owning a house and being debt free by attempting to pay off my mortgage in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Have also been hopping into Tabletop Simulator for some multiplayer board game goodness. Our gotos have been Betrayal at House on the Hill and Carcassonne.
Shaun: Animal Crossing: New Horizons is my first foray into the wonderfully relaxing yet highly addictive world of Animal Crossing; I picked it up to experience with my friends, colleagues and lovely wife, and it has been a serene delight, especially during these complicated times in the outside world. I’ve put dozens of hours into it already – more time invested faster than almost any other modern game I’ve played. That said, I’m now turning my attention to, and ready to lose myself in, the Final Fantasy VII Remake – a game 23 years in the making that still doesn’t feel real to me. Animal Crossing is important to many people, and comparatively speaking, Final Fantasy VII is that game for me. I can’t wait to meet up with all those characters – old friends really – once again and see how the adventure unfolds this time.
Tim: I just finished Butterfly Soup, a free visual novel about queer Asian teens who play baseball, and it’s a really delightful story that only takes a couple hours — honestly some of the funniest, most down-to-earth writing I’ve seen in a video game. Today I’m wrapping up The Division 2’s base campaign in time to clear my hard drive for Final Fantasy VII Remake, and hopefully finding time to try Into the Breach before it leaves Xbox PC Game Pass in a few days.
Clara: Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been the escape I needed in these trying times. Island me is better than IRL me in every way. If only I had a real wand to change outfits in the blink of an eye. I’m also playing Children of Morta, which has the best pixel animation I’ve ever seen, and Golf Story, a genuine delight in casual RPG writing. Final Fantasy VII Remake will take up the rest of my soul soon.
Santos: I was lucky enough to receive a key for VALORANT. So I will be binge-playing it all weekend long. Most of the time outside of playing, I’ll most likely be catching up on some old shows on Netflix.
DJ: Being the huge Resident Evil fan that I am, I’ve mostly been switching back and forth between Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil Project Resistance. I had been waiting super non-patiently for them to release and now that they have, I can’t put them down. When I’m looking to play with friends I either hop on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Overwatch, Town of Salem, or Unrailed. Overwatch is releasing a new Hero pretty soon, Echo, so I’m probably going to spend some more time there!
Dan: I’ve been spending most of my time playing games with friends. That has consisted of lots of Fortnite, NBA 2K20, and several of the Jackbox Games titles (mostly Trivia Murder Party 2, Joke Boat, and Quiplash). As everyone has been consumed by Animal Crossing: New Horizons, I also decided to pick up the original Animal Crossing on GameCube, which I had (ashamedly) never played before, so it’s been fun sinking time into that as well.
Pat: I recently played through the first four episodes of Life is Strange 2 and am very much looking forward to seeing how Sean & Daniel’s story plays out. Beyond that, my created player in NBA 2K20 has breathed new life into the Cavs franchise and we’ve gone from laughingstock of the league to a 7th-place-in-the-Eastern-Conference powerhouse. The Stanley Parable & Sayonara Wild Hearts are two shorter titles that I’ve recently completed and cannot recommend enough. The Jackbox Party Packs have also been in heavy rotation over here.
Kim: It’s been a nonstop Jackbox Party! Our favorites so far are Trivia Murder Party 2, You Don’t Know Jack, Fibbage 3, Faking It and Drawful. Our copy of Final Fantasy VII Remake arrives today so that’s definitely going to eat up most of our free time soon. Also highly suggest Terrace House on Netflix if anyone needs a new show to binge!
Bobz: It’s been a lot of Jackbox Party Packs here, getting all the relatives involved and connecting virtually to play a few times a week. The kids are also LOVING Marvel Fluxx. It’s fun to see how easily they got into that card game and how much they want to keep playing. We’ve also been going back through our puzzle collection and completing a lot of those.
